Kenyan music has, for the longest time, been criticized as, largely, falling below par of not only the international standards but also, the local context.

Several articles in the dailies, blogs, and even popular entertainment shows on TV/radio, Kenyan music still appears to be out in the woods. In retrospect, foreign productions have warmed their way not only in the hearts of the local audience but overshadowed local productions have taken limelight. Indeed, it has become the norm to see foreign music garner several awards as Kenyans vote en masse; including getting listings as top hits way above local productions.
